Overview

MaxMind provides enterprise-grade IP geolocation and fraud detection services. Its GeoIP2 databases map IP addresses to geographic locations and are typically queried server-side. Client-side scripts are uncommon but may appear in compliance or geo-routing contexts.

What This Script Does

MaxMind's primary product is a server-side IP geolocation database, so client-side JavaScript from MaxMind is rare. When present, the script typically calls MaxMind's GeoIP2 web service API to look up the visitor's geographic location based on their IP address. This is used for geo-routing (showing region-specific content), compliance checks (determining which privacy regulations apply based on location), or fraud scoring. The script sends the user's IP address to MaxMind's servers and receives location data in return. It does not typically set cookies.
